Ulster Carpets is one of the most respected names in British carpet manufacturing, and you can see the residential collection on display across all three of our showrooms — our Netherfield and Wollaton showrooms in Nottingham, and Meadow Vale Carpets in Duffield, Derbyshire. As an approved Ulster stockist, we keep the woven Axminster and Wilton ranges in store so you can feel the wool quality for yourself, compare colourways side by side, and take samples home before you decide. Whether you’re carpeting a Victorian terrace in Nottingham, a period stone cottage in the Derbyshire dales, or a new family home, our team can help you choose a carpet that will last.

Ulster Carpets has been family-owned since 1938, manufacturing in Portadown, Northern Ireland, and its carpets are found everywhere from country houses to luxury hotels. Two things set Ulster apart for the home.
First, construction. Ulster specialises in woven Axminster and Wilton carpets rather than tufted ones. Woven carpet is denser and more hard-wearing, holds intricate pattern definition that tufting can’t match, and looks better for longer — which is why it has been the traditional choice for stairs, landings and hallways for generations.
Second, fibre. Most Ulster ranges are wool-rich — commonly an 80% wool, 20% nylon blend — and several are 100% wool. Wool springs back underfoot, resists everyday soiling and is naturally insulating. The design breadth runs from quiet tonal plains through the Celtic-inspired plaids and Persian patterns Ulster is famous for, to clean, Danish-influenced contemporary collections, so it suits a period property and a modern interior equally well.
We display the residential collection across our showrooms and can order any colourway to suit your room — you can also explore the full collection on the Ulster Carpets website. A representative selection:
Plains and tonals — Grange Wilton, a plain woven Wilton in an 80% wool, 20% nylon blend with around 40 colours and rated for extra-heavy domestic wear; Natural Choice Plains, a 100% wool woven Wilton in soft neutral shades; plus York Wilton, Ulster Velvet and Natura.
Traditional and patterned (Axminster) — Glenmoy, one of Ulster’s longest-standing woven Axminsters with Celtic-tartan and Persian-influenced designs; and the Country House Collection, traditional and modern Axminster patterns in neutral shades that suit period homes beautifully.
Contemporary and textured — Habitus, contemporary patterns inspired by Danish design; Open Spaces, 100% wool loop-pile carpets including the Monaco, Panama and Dubai ranges; plus Vescent, Watercolours and more. We can also supply Ulster’s own Axfelt underlay.

A premium woven carpet deserves a proper fit. It starts with a free, no-obligation home measure anywhere across Nottingham and Derbyshire, so your quote is based on accurate measurements rather than a guess. We’ll give you a clear, itemised price; we don’t make “won’t be beaten” promises, but we’re confident on price.
Fitting is done by our own employed team — never subcontracted — so the people fitting your carpet are accountable to us and to you. They’ll prepare the subfloor, deal with doors and thresholds, recommend a suitable underlay (Ulster’s Axfelt is an excellent match), and leave the job clean and finished, with simple aftercare advice.
The best way to choose an Ulster carpet is to see it in person. Visit our Netherfield or Wollaton showrooms in Nottingham, or Meadow Vale Carpets in Duffield, Derbyshire, or call us and we’ll arrange a free home measure. Call Nottingham on 0115 940 4110 or Duffield on 01332 841 001. You can also browse our full carpet range.
A quick tip once it’s down: regular vacuuming and blotting spills promptly (never rubbing) will keep a wool-rich Ulster carpet looking its best for years.
