Victoria Carpets Nottingham & Derby

British-made carpet from Victoria Carpets, weaving since 1895. British wool and easy-care ranges on display across our Nottingham, Derbyshire and Leicestershire showrooms.

Victoria Carpets at Carpet Style

Victoria Carpets has been weaving carpet since 1895, when the company started in Kirkcaldy in Scotland. Very few carpet names in this country can claim that kind of continuity, and it shows in the way the ranges are put together: there is not much chasing of fashion, and a good deal of attention to how a carpet wears.

We carry Victoria across our showrooms and you can see it in person at Netherfield, Wollaton, Duffield and Ashby-de-la-Zouch. Samples can go home with you, which matters more with carpet than most people expect. A colour that looks warm under showroom lighting can read grey in a north-facing room.

What makes Victoria worth considering is that they are genuinely British made, and they offer both a proper British wool range and a practical synthetic one. A lot of brands do one or the other well. Having both from a single manufacturer means you can put wool in the bedrooms and an easy-care carpet in the hallway and keep the quality consistent through the house.

    Natureborn, EasiCare and Luxuria

Natureborn is the British wool range, made in the UK from British wool. Wool is the traditional carpet fibre for good reasons: it is naturally resilient, so it recovers from furniture marks rather than keeping them; it holds its appearance well under traffic; and it is naturally flame retardant. The Natureborn yarn is also moth-resistant, which addresses the one genuine drawback people raise about wool carpet.

EasiCare is the polypropylene range, also UK made. Polypropylene does not absorb liquid in the way wool does, which makes it stain resistant and far more forgiving of spills. It is also hypoallergenic, which is worth knowing if anyone in the house reacts to dust. This is the range for a busy hallway, a kitchen diner or a family living room.

Luxuria sits at the more indulgent end of the range.

Wool or polypropylene — how to decide

The honest answer is that it depends on the room rather than on which is better. Wool feels better underfoot, looks better for longer and is the more pleasant thing to live with, but it absorbs a spill. Polypropylene does not feel quite the same, but it will shrug off things that would mark wool permanently.

Most people get the best result by mixing them. Wool in bedrooms and a formal lounge, where it is appreciated and not abused. EasiCare on the stairs, in the hallway and anywhere food, pets or muddy boots are in play. We would rather set it up that way than sell you one fibre for the whole house and have you regret it in the hall.

Measured and fitted by our own teams

We measure every job ourselves. A room taken off a rough sketch is how you end up with an unnecessary seam, and with a patterned or wool carpet a badly placed join is very hard to hide.

Our teams handle furniture moving and take up and dispose of your old flooring as part of the job. If doors need easing once new carpet and underlay are in, we have an in-house joiner rather than leaving that with you.

With wool in particular, underlay is not an upsell. Wool is a resilient fibre and a decent underlay lets it do what it is good at, recovering from compression rather than flattening permanently. Pairing a good wool carpet with the cheapest underlay available is a false economy and we will say so.

We cover Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, Derby and Derbyshire, and north Leicestershire from our four showrooms.

    Victoria Carpets — common questions

Can I see Victoria Carpets in your showrooms?

Yes. We carry Victoria at Netherfield, Wollaton, Duffield and Ashby-de-la-Zouch, and you are welcome to take samples home. Carpet colour behaves very differently under showroom lighting than in a north-facing room, so seeing it at home before you commit is always worth the extra day or two.

Are Victoria carpets made in the UK?

Yes. Both the Natureborn wool range and the EasiCare polypropylene range are made in the UK, and Natureborn uses British wool. The company has been weaving since 1895, when it started out in Kirkcaldy in Scotland.

Should I choose wool or polypropylene?

It depends on the room rather than on which is better. Wool feels better underfoot, recovers from furniture marks and holds its appearance longer, but it absorbs spills. Polypropylene is stain resistant and far more forgiving, though it does not feel quite the same. Most people get the best result by mixing: wool in bedrooms and the lounge, EasiCare on stairs, hallways and anywhere food or pets are involved.

Is wool carpet a problem for moths?

It is the fair question to ask about any wool carpet. The Natureborn yarn is moth-resistant, which deals with the main drawback people raise. Normal vacuuming, particularly under furniture and along edges where fluff gathers undisturbed, handles the rest.

Is there a carpet suitable for allergies?

The EasiCare range is hypoallergenic, which is worth knowing if anyone in the house reacts to dust. Mention it when you visit and we will point you at the right ranges rather than leaving you to work it out from the labels.

Do you fit Victoria carpets across Derbyshire?

Yes. We supply and fit across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, Derby and Derbyshire, and north Leicestershire, working from our four showrooms. Our Duffield showroom on Meadow Vale covers Duffield, Belper and the Amber Valley villages.
