Most people asking what carpet fitting costs are really asking something else: will the price I am quoted be the price I pay? Here is the straight answer for Nottingham, Derbyshire and Leicestershire.
Fitting is free on most of our carpets
We include fitting free of charge on any carpet over £20 per square metre. That covers the large majority of what we sell across our four showrooms, and it is not a promotion with an end date. It is simply how we price.
We also run ranges where fitting, underlay, gripper and door bars are all included in the price of the carpet. One figure per square metre, nothing added at the end. Ask in any showroom which ranges are on that basis at the moment, because the selection changes.
Below that threshold, fitting is charged. You will see the figure on your quote before you commit to anything.
Why per-square-metre averages are not much use
Search for carpet fitting prices and you will find a lot of national averages quoted per square metre. They are a poor guide, because fitting time is driven by the shape of the room rather than its area. A square bedroom and an identically sized room with a bay window, two doorways and an awkward alcove are not the same job.
Stairs are the clearest example. A staircase takes longer than a bedroom several times its floor area, because every tread and riser is cut and fixed individually.
That is why we measure rather than estimate. A free home measure takes very little of your time and it is the only way to turn a guess into a price.
What the fitting price covers
- Moving your furniture out of the way and putting it back afterwards
- Lifting your old flooring and taking it away
- Grippers, underlay and trims
- Easing doors where the new carpet and underlay sit higher than the old. We have our own joiner
- Clearing up, including taking the offcuts and packaging with us
The full detail is on what is included when we fit your floor.
Will the price change once the old carpet comes up?
No. Anything your floor needs is identified at the home measure and priced before you order.
It is worth saying plainly that carpet very rarely asks anything of the floor underneath. Carpet and a good underlay sit happily over floorboards that are not perfectly flat, and in practice we very seldom have to prepare a room before carpeting it.
Luxury vinyl tile and laminate are different, because they need a flat and sound base. That work is quoted as a flat fee against a published standard, which we set out on what happens if your subfloor needs work.
When you pay
The home measure is free and so is the quotation, with no obligation to go ahead. A 30% deposit books your fitting date and places the order, and the balance is due on completion of the installation. Not before the floor is down, and not before you have seen it.
From order to fitted is typically two to three weeks. If you need it quicker we can usually accommodate it.
Carpet fitting across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire
Our fitting teams are employed by Carpet Style rather than booked job by job, which is why the same people come back if anything needs attention afterwards. You can see the ranges at Netherfield, Wollaton, Duffield and Ashby-de-la-Zouch, or we will bring samples to you.
