Most flooring websites tell you to get in touch and leave you guessing what happens after that. Here is the whole thing, start to finish.
There are four routes through it. They end in the same place — a floor fitted by our own team, at a price agreed before anything is ordered — but they start differently depending on how you would rather do it.
Plenty of places will take your sizes, order the goods and leave you carrying the risk if they turn out to be wrong. We do not work that way.
Every job is measured by us before anything goes on order. It is free, it takes very little of your time, and it is the single thing that stops a quotation turning into a surprise. We have been doing this since 1981 — judging where joins should fall, how stairs work, what a bay window actually needs — and that is not something to work out from a sketch.
If you have already measured yourself, that is genuinely useful and we will work from your sizes to get you booked in. But we will still check them before the goods are ordered.
If you are not sure which to pick, pick this one.
If you have already measured. Bring your sizes in. We will show you the ranges, you choose, and a 30% deposit secures your fitting date — useful if you are working to a deadline and want to get in the diary.
Before we order the goods we check those sizes ourselves. If they differ, the price adjusts accordingly, up or down, and you are refunded or invoiced for the difference. In practice customer measurements are usually very accurate. Occasionally they are not, and the gap between a room that is 4.1m and one that is 4.3m is a carpet you cannot lay. If you have settled on a range but not a colour, take samples home before we order.
We bring the samples out to you. We measure, assess the subfloor and, if you are happy, organise the whole order at your kitchen table. No second trip, and no charge for the visit.
Or we measure first and you visit afterwards. Worth knowing: what we can carry in the van is a fraction of what is in the showrooms. If you want the full choice, having us measure first and then coming in to browse — knowing exactly what the rooms need — is often the better order to do it in.
Nothing is ordered until we have measured and you have agreed the price.
Do I have to measure my own rooms?
No, and we would much rather do it ourselves. A proper measure is what makes a quotation accurate, and it is free. If you have already measured and want to get into the diary, bring your sizes in — we will work from those and check them before anything is ordered.
Is the home measure free?
Yes, and so is the quotation. There is no obligation to go ahead afterwards.
How much deposit do you take?
30%, which books your fitting date and places the order. The balance is due on completion of the installation.
What if my own measurements turn out to be wrong?
We check them before the goods are ordered. If they differ, the price adjusts up or down and you are refunded or invoiced for the difference. Most customer measurements are very close, but we check rather than assume.
Can I take samples home?
Yes, and we would encourage it. Flooring looks different in your own light, against your own walls, at the time of day you will be living with it.
Can you bring samples to my house?
Yes, at no charge. We can measure, assess the subfloor and organise the order in one visit. We can only carry a selection, though, so if you want the full range it is worth visiting a showroom as well.
How long from deposit to fitting?
Two to three weeks is typical. If you need it quicker we can usually accommodate it — tell us the date you are working to and we will give you a straight answer.
